Start a general conversation but make sure you are sharing too.

Ask open ended questions.

Where do/did you go to college? What is your favorite subject?
Do you enjoy reading?

Find a common ground.

What kind of music do you listen to?
Who is your favorite movie star?
Do you like to travel?
Have you been in other countries before?
